Blended Learning: the Best of Both Worlds

Pace Thyself.

"Blended Learning" provides the best of both worlds for many students. Numerous studies have found that Blended Learning - combining online reading/learning with personal interaction with instructors - allows students to absorb information more fully over a longer period of time.

Learn PV design at your own pace, then come to a two-day, hands-on installation lab to practice installing three full PV systems.

How well Blended Learning works for you depends on your personal learning styles and needs:

  • Can you get off a full five days, or does your work schedule interfere?
  • Do you need to study at your own times and place, choosing which days and hours you put into learning?
  • Do you learn information well from written materials and video demonstrations?
  • Do you retain information better if it's obtained over a period of weeks rather than days?

Many students cannot commit to a five day block of time for our Traditional course, or they already know bits of the information (like basic electricity) and feel they just need a quick brush up on those topics. This online format allows that flexibility.

  • An instructor works with online students daily, checking in every few hours to answer questions, moderate student forums, and see how students are progressing with their work and understanding. Personal explanations - even additional emails and phone calls - are offered as needed to individual learners.
  • Quizzes are given at the end of each module to enhance learning and to assess how well you understand the information.
  • Videos are used to visually describe different activities, safety precautions, etc.
  • Numerous external links and resources provide further in-depth learning.

The online portion of the seminar takes students between 30 and 50 hours, depending on their learning speed. After finishing the online modules (our online instructors monitor who has completed all modules, assignments, and quizzes and help out as needed!), learners sign up for a two day lab. We offer these at different locations around the country, on weekend getaways in Las Vegas, Nevada, and in our home classroom in Bakersfield, CA. After participating in the lab, students receive our Certificate of Completion.
