How to Find a Job

"The solar industry employs almost 100,000 Americans across all 50 states, and
is projected to support over a half million American jobs by 2016."

We train everyone with an interest in solar - some already have careers that easily absorb these new skills, some need to go out and find a job in the industry. This page is for the job seekers.

First things first - do you already have an up to date resume that's tailored for this industry? If not, then write on up, on a computer. It doesn't have to be fancy, but it does have to be neat, clean, and error free. Use spell check. Have a friend read it - does it sell you?? Employers want to know how YOU can help THEM - so tell them. Detail how to reach you, your work history, your educational background, any certificates you've received, and any industry tests you've taken. What skills do you have, beyond just what the job requires? - are you a good team players, do you like to learn new skills, do you speak a foreign language? Why are you better than the 'other guy' for this job?

The most obvious place to start looking for jobs is in your hometown, or in the town you want to make your home.

  • Research the local solar installation companies: check their websites, call ahead to find out if they're hiring, pay them a visit (even if they're not currently hiring).  Certain times of year will be busier for solar installations than others - what's the schedule in your area?
  • Check the local papers, CraigsList, Monster, etc.
  • Check the local college job boards, usually in the student union building. You don't necessarily have to be attending a college to browse their job listings.
  • Check the job listings with the following sites - post a resume on some. A lot of jobs listed are managerial, design, project management, and sales related - they're listed on these national sites because the employers are doing a national search for talent. Local resources and sites might be more useful for entry level positions.
